A Committed Advocate

Susan is a candidate for Deputy Lord Mayor and Councillor for the Hobart City Council. She is driven by her love for this city and her dedication to community equity and connection. She is a strong advocate for housing of all types, walkable streets, sustainable environmental practices and our creative industries.

With a rich background in communications, film and television, advocacy and community service, she aims to enhance the quality of life for Hobartians through action on housing, fostering community connections, developing and nurturing neighbourhoods in our city, improved recreational spaces, and support for small business and our creative industries.

Her vision is anchored in collaboration and the belief that every voice matters.

Priorities:

Susan's campaign is rooted in understanding the needs of Hobart residents. We need a positive, progressive approach. Supporting the development of diverse, thriving neighbourhoods in our city requires an energetic Council with a determined, co-operative, “can do” attitude.

Housing  - a city that is home for people at all ages and stages and incomes.

More housing where people want to live. I will work to support all types of housing - particularly the development of medium-density inner-city housing, and the recreation spaces, shops and businesses those residents will visit. If you want to live in the city there should be a place for you whether you’re renting or buying.

A city that supports and celebrates the arts and creative industries

We are fast becoming a city artists can't afford to live and make work in. I will work to develop and support Council initiatives to nurture and expand our cultural industries and artists, recognising their vital role in building a vibrant and diverse community.

A focus on footpaths, pathways & accessibility

Hobart's lumpy footpaths need fixing. I'm a walker. Every day when I'm out and about I find broken, dangerous pathways. Some streets don't have footpaths at all! Active transport begins with being able to safely walk or wheel through our city and its suburbs.

Affordability

Council budgets must always be closely examined. Many Hobart households are feeling the squeeze financially. And 30% of Hobart households are single person households like mine. So when rates, tip-fees and parking costs go up those households are often disproportionally impacted. I will be a voice for them.
